How to Read a Book with Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers

  • Virtual – Zoom NYU (map)

Mom Crew is partnering with NYU’s BabyChildTeen research cohort of accomplished PhDs and professors on an ongoing Lunch and Learn series. In February 2022, Dr. Sudha Arunachalam will lead a virtual workshop on how to read a book with babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

We often hear that's important to read to children from infancy, but we hear much less about why and how. We will discuss the scientific evidence behind how children learn language from ages 0 to 5 and talk about how sharing books can support that learning. We'll discuss practical strategies for choosing and sharing books across this age range. There will also be some time for your questions at the end.

Tickets are only $15 and will be available until 1 hour before the event. The Zoom will be recorded and sent to everyone who purchases a ticket in advance, case you miss the live event or would like to review the content again later.

By signing up for this event, you agree to be added to the Mom Crew and NYU BabyChildTeen mailing lists. You may unsubscribe at any time. If you would like to join without opting in, please email Mom Crew.

Tickets are nonrefundable but may be transferred to another mom by emailing Emily@MyMomCrew.com.

About Dr. Sudha Arunachalam

My research at the LEARN Lab examines one of the most amazing accomplishments of early childhood: learning language. I work with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to ask questions about how children discover the meanings of words and how children’s everyday experiences support language learning. This work interfaces with linguistics, cognitive and developmental psychology, and communication sciences and disorders.

BabyChildTeen@NYU is a collection of developmental research labs at the Washington Square campus of New York University. We study how kids develop and grow over time, and we want our research to be accessible to families all over New York City.

We encourage you to sign up to participate in online research studies, which are available for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. They’re a great way to engage your children, and you'll have the opportunity to speak to developmental psychologists about any questions you may have regarding child development. Once it is safe to do so, we will also resume in-person studies and we would love to have you visit our labs.

Sign up to be invited to upcoming research studies (no obligation to participate). Also, be sure to check out our Facebook page for more information about events and studies. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at babychildteen@nyu.edu or give us a call at (212) 998-9058.
