Mom Crew is excited to partner with NYU’s BabyChildTeen research cohort of accomplished PhDs for a monthly Lunch and Learn series.
In November, Dr. Sudha Arunachalam will give a fascinating talk on baby’s language development. This informal workshop will provide an overview of how children learn language, from infancy through the preschool years.
Dr. Arunachalam will discuss research on how baby babbles turn into full sentences and why toddlers and preschoolers make the cute mistakes they do. She will also talk about milestones to look out for, such as when to expect children to understand simple sentences, say their first word, and transition to full sentences. Finally, she'll discuss what you can do to support your child's language skills, such as practical strategies for sharing books with little ones at different ages.
There will be time for some questions at the end. Early bird tickets are on sale through 11/13/2020 for $10 (limited quantity available) and regular tickets will be available after that for $15 until 1 hour before the event.
By signing up for this event, you agree to be added to the Mom Crew and NYU BabyChildTeen mailing lists. You may unsubscribe at any time. If you would like to join without opting in, please email Mom Crew.
Tickets are nonrefundable but may be transferred to another mom by emailing Emily@MyMomCrew.com.
About Dr. Sudha Arunachalam
My research at the LEARN Lab examines one of the most amazing accomplishments of early childhood: learning language. I work with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to ask questions about how children discover the meanings of words and how children’s everyday experiences support language learning. This work interfaces with linguistics, cognitive and developmental psychology, and communication sciences and disorders.
BabyChildTeen@NYU is a collection of developmental research labs at the Washington Square campus of New York University. We study how kids develop and grow over time, and we want our research to be accessible to families all over New York City.
We encourage you to sign up to participate in online research studies, which are available for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. They’re a great way to engage your children, and you'll have the opportunity to speak to developmental psychologists about any questions you may have regarding child development. Once it is safe to do so, we will also resume in-person studies and we would love to have you visit our labs.
Sign up to be invited to upcoming research studies (no obligation to participate). Also, be sure to check out our Facebook page for more information about events and studies. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at babychildteen@nyu.edu or give us a call at (212) 998-9058.
